When Kyrie Irving was traded away from the Cleveland Cavaliers just one season after winning the championship, all kinds of rumors regarding his relationship with LeBron James and how he reportedly doesn't want to play in his shadow surfaced

It created this media narrative that he asked for a trade because he no longer wants to play alongside James, which is simply not true. Now, the Brooklyn Nets star set the record straight about leaving LeBron and the Cavs in his latest appearance on the ā€œI Am Athleteā€ podcast.

ā€œThey told me their future plans. I said, ā€œLook, this isn't for me,ā€ Irving said on his conversation with the Cavs before getting traded, per Sports Illustrated ā€œā€¦ Didn't get a chance to talk to Bron before the media ended up coming out and saying that I asked for a trade.ā€

Based on Kyrie Irving's explanation, it clearly looks like he was unfairly treated by the media during the Cavs fiascoā€“something that he has been complaining about for years now, even recently highlighting how reporters are puppets.

Fortunately, all sides seemed to have move on now. Kyrie and LeBron James appear to have a good relationship now after the breakup of their partnership in 2017, and there have even been talks in the past about them possibly teaming up.

Still, it's interesting to think what would have happened had the Irving-LeBron partnership went for a bit longer.
