The Cleveland Cavs have fallen from grace in the blink of an eye. After four straight trips to the NBA Finals, the former Eastern Conference powerhouse is relegated to last place in the entire NBA. But after losing LeBron James in the offseason, any hopes of a return to the NBA Finals are minuscule at best. It's no surprise that the Cavaliers are no longer a contender to win the Eastern Conference, but it is surprising that everything fell apart as quickly as it did. Tyronn Lue was fired just six games into the season after the Cavaliers had a puzzling offseason. They signed Kevin Love to an extension and had some fans believing they could contend for a playoff spot in the meager East.
But despite the decision to enter the seasons with veterans like Kyle Korver, J.R. Smith, and George Hill, the Cavaliers quickly showed they were not a playoff-caliber team. Within two weeks it was clear that their offseason plan was a failure from the start. They needed to trade veterans for any possible assets and pivot towards player development.
The betting odds are further proof that the Cavaliers bungled their second rebuild in the wake of LeBron James leaving in free agency. If you like losing money, bet on the Cavs to win the Eastern Conference.
