There have been a flurry of trade scenarios thrown out over the last few days regarding Cleveland Cavaliers All-Star point guard Kyrie Irving.

According to Zach Lowe of ESPN, the Boston Celtics have contacted the Cavaliers about their possible interest in acquiring the 25-year-old.

Most teams, including the asset-rich Celtics, have placed the obligatory call letting Cleveland know they would like to be kept in the loop, sources say. Boston could offer Isaiah ThomasJae Crowder and one of their golden picks — Brooklyn's pick next season, or the Lakers/Kings pick they got from Philly in the Markelle Fultz deal. It's unclear if they would dangle all of that, but those picks could represent the young stud Cleveland needs. Regardless, a deal between the East's two best teams seems unlikely.

If the Celtics were to put a heavy effort into looking to acquire Irving, they'd have plenty of intriguing assets at their disposal. General manager Danny Ainge has allotted several first overall picks over the next few years while also holding intriguing young talent on the roster.

Boston could also offer up All-Star point guard Isaiah Thomas, who is in the final year of his deal worth nearly $6.3 million next season. Thomas could immediately step in as the replacement for Irving by providing the Cavaliers with another elite scoring guard.

The Celtics' interest level in Irving will likely depend on the Cavaliers' decision to comply with the three-time All-Star's trade request. If there is any difficulty finding a suitable offer, Boston could swoop into the conversation.
