Boston Celtics guard Kyrie Irving suffered a knee sprain during the team's matchup against the L.A. Clippers and won't return for the remainder of the game.

Irving suffered the injury in the second quarter, with Boston leading 68-43.

The All-Star guard went out with 14 points on 4-of-7 shooting.

Fans could only hope that this isn't something that would cause Kyrie to miss a significant amount of time, as the Celtics are already starting to play better as of late. They have won 10 of their last 11 games and are closing in on the Toronto Raptors and Milwaukee Bucks for the top seed in the East.

Irving missed the Celtics' playoff run last season, and a lot of people see him as the missing piece for Boston's title hopes this year. If his injury happens to be a serious one, it could prove to be a fatal blow for Boston's championship aspirations.

With the Raptors and Bucks making major acquisitions to improve their roster during the trade deadline, the Celtics need to be at full strength in order for them to be able to keep up with the competition.

Irving is averaging 23.8 points, 7.0 assists, and 4.9 rebounds per game for the Celtics this season.

Updates regarding Irving's injury are expected to be released within the next couple of hours.
