Boston Celtics legend Bill Russell, who is synonymous with the NBA, has been rushed to the hospital, according to numerous reports.

TMZ was the first to break the news, as the media outlet relayed the following information about the Celtics great:

Law enforcement sources tell us … an ambulance was called to Russell's home in the Seattle area Friday night, and the 84-year-old Celtics legend was rushed to a nearby hospital.

We're told Bill was having heart trouble and shortness of breath … and is still hospitalized. We've reached out to get an update on his condition.

The 84-year-old is a five-time MVP and 12-time All-Star. Bill Russell also played his entire 13-season career in the 1950s and 1960s with the Boston Celtics. In turn, the franchise retired his No. 6 in 1972, after he led the franchise to winning 11 NBA championships.

Somewhat lost in history, though not so much with Boston, was Russell's stints as the head coach for both the Celtics as well as the Seattle SuperSonics and the Sacramento Kings.

This story is obviously fluid, still developing, and with the details of the entire ordeal a bit murky. As more information comes to the surface, whether it be more reporting or a release from the great's family, ClutchPoints will keep you posted it as it continues to develop.

Of course, our thoughts and prayers go out to Russell, his immediately family, as well as his extended love ones. A basketball loving nation waits for hopefully good news and a bill of good health.
