The Boston Celtics are gearing up for a promising year after losing in Game 7 of the Eastern Conference Finals last season. Brad Stevens will have a very similar roster to work with next season and he'll have Kyrie Irving and Gordon Hayward.

One player Stevens won't have at his disposal is Abdel Nader. According to Shams Charania of Yahoo Sports, the Celtics waived Nader.

The 24-year-old played for one season with Boston. He spent significant time with the Celtics' G League affiliate, the Maine Red Claws during the 2016-17 and 2017-18 seasons. During those two seasons, Nader averaged 21.3 points, 6.2 rebounds, and 3.7 assists per game.

In 48 career games with the Celtics, Nader averaged 3.0 points, 1.5 rebounds, and 0.5 assists per game. Nader saw minimal minutes during the Celtics playoff run last season. Had the Celtics been fully healthy, it's unlikely Nader would have seen any time on the court.

According to Jared Weiss of The Athletic, Nader was set to make $450k in guaranteed money on August 1. By waiving Nader, the Celtics are not locked into keeping Nader and they free up another roster spot.

It's unclear what the Celtics plan to do with this additional roster spot, but it frees the team up to get creative. They can look to bring in an NBA veteran. They can also sign a younger player they're already familiar with, either from summer league or G League play.

While many teams around the league are making dramatic moves, the Celtics are making minor adjustments ahead of the 2018-19 season.
