The Boston Celtics are primed for a huge offseason with the impending free agency of star point guard Kyrie Irving. Al Horford knows it.

There have been several reports that Irving is as good as gone in Boston ever since a disappointing second-round exit against the Milwaukee Bucks. However, veteran Celtics big man Al Horford remains hopeful that Irving gives it another go in Beantown:

“We’ll see. I hope so… but you never know. It’s a decision that he has to take.” Horford said while watching the Spanish CB League semifinals between Real Madrid and Valencia, per Andy Madrid of Eurohoops.

Horford was reportedly in attendance to support former Celtics teammate Edy Tavares, who now plays for Real Madrid.

Nonetheless, as mentioned, this will be a very crucial summer for the Celtics with Kyrie threatening to leave them for nothing.

Irving has been linked to several teams such as his hometown Brooklyn Nets, New York Knicks, and the Los Angeles Lakers. Boston, on the other hand, has been left in the dark.

With these indications, Boston will have to retool and reformulate its path to the top. Irving's departure, however, if it happened, would give the organization a clearer picture of which direction it will move, and that is to start building around young stars Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown.

Remember, sans Irving, this is still the same team that came within two good minutes of making the NBA Finals last year.

Irving's decision, and ultimately the direction Boston goes, could affect Horford. While he is the Celtics' defensive anchor who provides a valuable veteran presence on the floor and in the locker room, the 33-year old center doesn't match the timeline of their young core. He still has one year left in his current deal and will become an unrestricted free agent next season.
