Before the Boston Celtics' first playoff game in the bubble, the team got a virtual pep talk from Massachusetts' most accomplished professional head coach: New England Patriots head coach Bill Belichick.

The six-time Super Bowl champion addressed the Celtics over a video call on Sunday, a day before their Game 1 contest against the Philadelphia 76ers.

Belichick has become a good friend of Celtics head coach Brad Stevens, who asked the future Hall of Fame football maestro to talk to his team. Belichick made the revelation during an appearance on WEEI’s “Ordway, Merloni & Fauria” on Monday.

“We have a great relationship with Coach Stevens here,” Belichick said, per NESN. “We have several people who have worked with him. [Patriots offensive coordinator) Josh [McDaniels] is close with him. I’m close with him. He actually spoke to us earlier in the spring and talked to us a little bit about their situation.”

Stevens has attended the Patriots' training camp in the past. The New England coach noted that Stevens also spoke at an event for his foundation, so he was more than happy to return the favor.

Belichick said his message to the Celtics focused on the intensity of postseason competition — something he's deeply familiar with, certainly more so than basketball.

Boston center Daniel Theis summed up Belichick's message: “Be prepared and control whatever you can control,” Theis said, per NBC Sports Boston.
