After acquiring swingman Josh Richardson from the Dallas Mavericks, the Boston Celtics immediately agreed to extend the contract of the guard for a deal worth $24 million over the next two seasons, per The Athletic's Shams Charania.

Moses Brown,  a young center who was acquired from the Kemba Walker deal, was immediately traded by the Celtics to Dallas for Richardson who is a more experienced swingman as Boston looks to try and contend now.

Richardson has posted career averages of 12.3 points (42.7% FG, 35.8% 3-PT, 83.2% FT), 3.2 rebounds, 2.8 assists, 1.1 steals, 0.6 blocked shots, and 30.6 minutes in 373 career games with the Miami Heat, Philadelphia 76ers, and the Mavericks. He has averaged at least 10.0 points in each of his last five seasons from 2015-16 to 2020-21, including a career-high 16.6 points per game with Miami in 2018-19.

The Celtics should hope Richardson gets back to his Heat form as his production dipped and declined ever since leaving South Beach. When the Mavs traded Seth Curry for Richardson, the Sixers were the clear winners since Curry has been on a tear for them.

Meanwhile, Richardson was not the player Dallas thought he would be when they traded for him. He often struggled offensively and was even benched in some games during their first-round series against the Los Angeles Clippers.

He will likely start alongside Celtics star Jayson Tatum as Jaylen Brown continues to recover from an injury that forced him to miss the remainder of the year last season.

Can Josh Richardson bounce back and prove he is worth the money the Celtics are basically paying him?
