The Boston Celtics have turned things around in a hurry. After being in early disarray due to the Gordon Hayward injury and dropping their first two games of the season, the Celtics have stormed back to win their next seven games, becoming the first team in NBA history to achieve such a feat.

The Celtics very nearly had that winning streak snapped on the road to the Oklahoma City Thunder on Friday night, as they were down by 18 points at halftime. However, they outscored the Thunder 64-37 in the second half to storm to a 101-94 win.

The Celtics have their league-best defense to thank for their league-leading 7-2 mark. They’re giving up just 93.8 points per game and are also No. 1 in defensive efficiency.

Newcomer Kyrie Irving has finally started to settle in and is averaging nearly 24 points on 50 percent shooting over his last five games. Al Horford has also had a strong start to the season, while young wings Jaylen Brown and Jayson Tatum have stepped up to help fill the void left by Hayward.

While it’s still early in the season, the Celtics have positioned themselves nicely toward potentially claiming the No. 1 seed in the East for the second year in a row.
