The offseason for the Boston Celtics has been a mixed bag. It would be better if new draft pick Romeo Langford can genuinely reconstruct his game so that he can provide considerable production in the coming NBA season.

Though the team nabbed one of the best available free agents on the market in point guard Kemba Walker, the team lost Kyrie Irving in the process. Furthermore, the Celtics were unable to complete a trade for Anthony Davis (likely due to not including Jayson Tatum in the proceedings) and lost Al Horford, Terry Rozier and Aron Baynes to various deals.

However, the team did have a terrific night in the 2019 NBA Draft. First, the Celtics took Romeo Langford at No. 14. Beyond that, the team took two highly regarded prospects who fell down draft boards in Grant Williams and Carsen Edwards.

Already, the Celtics and Romeo Langford have gotten together to improve Langford’s jump shooting form. His stroke was fairly busted when he was drafted, as his 27.2 percent clip from deep in his freshman season would indicate, per Sports Reference.

According to a story by Jay King of The Athletic, “Langford has already started to remake a shaky jump shot. The 14th overall selection has been working with assistant coach Joe Mazzulla to shift his release point and force the thumb on his guide hand away from the basketball. The Celtics have wasted no time addressing Langford’s iffy form, a concern dating to his days as an Indiana high school superstar.”

Though a good finisher at the rim and a supremely strong athlete with good size and length, Langford will almost certainly require a jump shot to be a truly effective player for the Celtics.
