The Boston Celtics are nearing a blockbuster trade to acquire All-Star point guard Kyrie Irving from the Cleveland Cavaliers that could thrust the franchise in championship contention.

However, the sudden standstill in the trade talks has opened the door to the Celtics going in another direction if the deal falls through. During ESPN's First Take on Tuesday morning, Max Kellerman keenly pointed out that the Celtics remain in a great position to make a major move for a superstar talent because of their plethora of trade assets.

“What the trade demonstrates is that Boston has a surplus of tradeable assets that could land them many players around the league that they could want. Basically, any player that they want in the NBA, Boston is likely to offer that team the best deal. So at the moment, Kyrie is the best available player. That doesn't mean he won't be the best available player at the trade deadline.”

General manager Danny Ainge's effort to stockpile draft picks and young talent over the last few years has put the franchise in the position to potentially flip that for an All-Star caliber player. There could be many more available this upcoming season such as Anthony Davis or DeMarcus Cousins.

The Celtics have the upper hand in any trade talk because of what they can offer to any team that would certainly outweigh any other offer made. It has given the franchise many different options at their disposal to make the team better and increase their title chances.

Even if the trade with Cleveland were to fall a part, Boston is still in a prime position to add another superstar to the mix.
