The Boston Celtics saw two star players leave, when Kyrie Irving and Al Horford both departed for conference rivals. While the team did bring back point guard Kemba Walker, the team has so far opted to go the depth route when it comes to patching up the potential holes in their frontcourt.

According to a report from The Athletic’s Shams Charania, the Celtics have signed French center Vincent Poirier to a two-year deal. While no monetary numbers are known yet, it seems as if the Celtics value what the French big man can bring to the team. Poirier is a 6-foot-11 center, and is coming off of a surprisingly solid season for the Spanish club Saski Baskonia.

Last season, Poirier averaged 11.9 points and 8.3 rebounds per game, while shooting 61.7 percent from the floor. Poirier was named to the All-Euroleague second team, and led the Euroleague in rebounds per game. According to multiple reports, the Celtics were interested in signing Poirier since April, but Poirier was reportedly not excited at the thought of sitting on a bench, even if it was in the NBA.

With the decision made, it seems as if the Celtics will be playing Poirier somewhat often. Especially with the loss of All-Star Al Horford and Aron Baynes, the Celtics could use some big man help. The team recently signed former Portland Trail Blazers center Enes Kanter to a two-year deal, and will now pair him with Poirier, with the team likely hoping the duo can replicate some of the production of Horford.
