To honor the passing of John Havlicek, the Boston Celtics will wear a tribute patch on their jerseys during Sunday's Eastern Conference second-round matchup against the Milwaukee Bucks.

The patch will either feature Havlicek's nickname (Hondo) or his number (17):

Havlicek passed away on Thursday at his home in Jupiter, Florida. He was 79 years old. The cause of death was not initially released, but the Celtics legend had reportedly been dealing with Parkinson's:

Havlicek was a Celtics legend. He played for the team for 16 seasons, winning championships in eight of them. He was best known for his ability to score on a whim. Over the course of his career, he racked up 26,395 points, which still ranks first in franchise history. He's also second on Boston's all-time assists tally (6,114), just behind Bob Cousy (6,945).

“John Havlicek is one of the most accomplished players in Boston Celtics history, and the face of many of the franchise's signature moments,” the team's official statement read. “He was a champion in every sense, and as we join his family, friends, and fans in mourning his loss, we are thankful for all the joy and inspiration he brought to us.”

“Hondo,” as he was known, earned 13 All-Star nods. And in 1984, he was enshrined in the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame, cementing his legacy as one of the all-time greats.
