The Boston Celtics have had their third game postponed in as many days.

Marc Stein of the New York Times reported Wednesday's showdown between the Celtics and Orlando Magic has been postponed. The two teams are currently scheduled to play again on Friday, but Stein noted the status of that game has yet to be determined.

The Celtics were scheduled to play Sunday against the Miami Heat, but the Eastern Conference Finals rematch was postponed after the Heat lacked the minimum eight players needed to participate due to inconclusive tests and contact tracing for COVID-19.

Boston was then meant to play the Chicago Bulls on Tuesday, though that game was postponed Monday due to the Celtics' own ongoing roster issues relating to the Health and Safety Protocols. Now, their schedule is in further jeopardy.

Then again, the entire NBA is in jeopardy amid a slew of outbreaks and contact tracing.

League officials held calls with the NBPA and all 30 general managers on Monday. Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN reported the NBA and NBPA have since agreed to a tightening of protocols, including limited interaction between players and increased mask-wearing on the bench.

The interaction bit is somewhat puzzling, seeing as players are already breathing all over one another when on the floor. Nonetheless, the NBA is clearly desperate to try anything in the hopes of getting the situation under control. The Celtics have already lost Jayson Tatum to COVID-19 for the next couple weeks as well.

Commissioner Adam Silver has said the NBA would not jump the line for the COVID-19 vaccine, so the league will have to get a grip on things. Otherwise, postponements–like those experienced by the Celtics–could become more commonplace, which would create further scheduling issues.
