Celtics executive Brad Stevens gets brutally honest regarding the team's recent struggles, especially for Marcus Smart.

The Boston Celtics dropped back-to-back games against the Washington Wizards. In one game, Smart shot 14.3% from the field, making one out of seven. The team has had a difficult start to the season, currently placed at 12th in the east with two wins and four losses.

Amid the struggle and constant criticism from different sources, Stevens, a former head coach, suggests that Smart should return to the staple attributes that make him unique.

“One thing I think guys need to get back to when they’re struggling is, ‘what makes you the best version of yourself?’ ‘What plays are going to be shown at your banquet when you retire?’,” Stevens said, recalling Smart’s game-tying three in Madison Square Garden and the steal on LaMelo Ball that sent both games to overtime.

“For him, it’s diving on the floor, offensive rebounds where he gets an and-1 against Embiid in the playoffs, not being afraid in a big moment to step in and take that shot and make that shot. All the things that people love about him.”

Smart isn't known as a player who fills up the stat sheet. Instead, his primary role is to serve as an effective vocal leader for the team, making hustle plays that change the game's dynamic.

However, aside from Smart, other members of the Celtics must step up to bounce back from an abysmal start— in hopes of making a strong playoff push this season.
