The Boston Celtics have excelled this season largely due to their two young stars, Jaylen Brown and Jayson Tatum.

After last season's disappointing regular season and finish, the Celtics have rebounded this year. Entering Monday night's slate of games, the Celtics had the second-best record in the East at 26-11.

Tatum ranks second on the Celtics with 19.3 points per game. Meanwhile, Brown ranks third with 19.9 points per game on a ridiculous 49.1 percent from the field. That's not even mentioning how he's converting on 39.2 percent of his 3-point attempts. The 23-year-old swingman converted on 34.4 percent of his long-range shots last season.

With all of that said, not every night is going to be smooth shooting night. That's why head coach Brad Stevens is revealing what he wants from Tatum and Brown on those rough shooting days.

Stevens Preaches ‘Consistency' For Young Celtics

Via Jay King of The Athletic:

“First of all, consistency the way we gauge it is not based on whether the ball went in. Consistency the way they're often gauged from the public perception is whether the ball went in.  So, it's more about, did you gt the right shots, did you do the right things to get the shots you want, did you guard the way you're capable of guarding?

And then everything else over time, the cream rises to the top and the ability to put the ball in the basket. That's why they average 20 points per game each.

And that's the bottom line. There's going to be ups and downs, days when the ball doesn't go in the basket. But that doesn't mean there's an inconsistency to the approach. And the consistency of the approach is way more important to us.”

The Celtics previously refused to include Tatum and Brown in trade discussions early in their careers.

Now they're very much reaping the rewards.
