Boston Celtics small forward Jaylen Brown is playing the best basketball of his career this season and Celtics head coach Brad Stevens knows why.

Stevens says Brown's decision-making with the ball in his hands has taken his game to the next level:

“I think he’s improved his reads,” Stevens said, via Celtics.com. “With the ball and driving and kicking and making the right play, and the more that that happens, the more the ball finds you again. He’s always been able to drive it through contact, but now he picks his spots, I think, well.

“He’s such a physical driver, and [what] he’s gotten better at is a lot of guys over the last couple of years have played him with bigger guys and he’s gotten better at taking advantage of those matchups. And that’s been a big reason why we’ve been better this year. Because you always have to now decide who you’re going to put your smaller of the wings on, and who you’re going to put your big guy on when we have our full group out there.”

The Celtics are 22-8 on the season entering Tuesday. They appear on their way to redeeming themselves after last season’s dysfunctional campaign.

Brown is averaging 20.6 points, 7.0 rebounds and 2.4 assists while shooting 51.8 percent from the field, 40.0 percent from beyond the arc and 75.2 percent from the free-throw line.

Brown averaged 27.0 points and 6.7 rebounds as the Celtics went 2-1 last week. Brown was named the Eastern Conference Player of the Week.

Many believe one of the reasons Brown is flourishing this season is because he got his contract taken care of. Brown signed a lucrative extension with the Celtics before the season started, so he’s playing free now and turning into an elite two-way player right before our eyes.
