There's no guarantee that Tacko Fall finds his way onto the Boston Celtics' active roster this season. The 7-foot-6 giant signed an Exhibit 10 deal with Boston last month, ensuring him the opportunity to participate in training camp while allowing the team to retain his G-League rights even if he's ultimately released.

As Celtics co-owner Steve Pagliuca told Nicole Yang of The Boston Globe, though, there would be many disappointed league followers if Fall doesn't suit up for the green and gold this season.

“Tacko’s a force of nature,” he said. “He’s a very gentle soul. He’s had a great team effect already. Everybody’s rooting for Tacko. It’s going to be great to see him play.”

Fall played four seasons at UCF, in March helping the Knights to the second round of the NCAA Tournament, where they lost to a Duke team led by star rookies Zion Williamson of the New Orleans Pelicans and R.J. Barrett of the New York Knicks. He won American Athletic Conference Defensive Player of the Year as a sophomore, and last season was selected third team all-conference.

Fall played for the Celtics at Summer League after going undrafted. He quickly became a fan favorite in Las Vegas due to his cartoonish size and surprisingly effective play. He averaged 7.2 points, 4.0 rebounds, and 1.2 blocks in just 12.6 minutes per game for Boston, shooting 77.3 percent from the field. Though Fall’s innate lack of ability to move in space was occasionally exploited by opposing guards, he still proved more nimble than expected overall, a development that meaningfully improved his previously scant chances of sticking in the NBA.
