The news of Al Horford missing the Boston Celtics’ game against the Los Angeles Lakers due to a concussion might have caused significant concern among Celtics fans. Horford also suffered a concussion last season which saw him miss nine games early in the year.

According to Celtics president Danny Ainge, this concussion doesn’t seem to be quite as serious as the one he suffered last time.

Horford has had a strong start to the year, averaging 14.6 points, 9.2 rebounds, and 4.7 assists, while also anchoring the Celtics’ league-leading defense.

Given how great Horford has been playing and how relatively shallow the Celtics are along the frontcourt, they can’t really afford to lose Horford for an extended amount of time. Aron Baynes and Marcus Morris are capable veterans who can do a solid job, but unproven rookies Daniel Theis and Semi Ojeleye will need to step up with Horford out.

While the Celtics need Horford back as soon as possible, head injuries like concussions should be taken very seriously. This is especially true for Horford, who just suffered a concussion recently. The Celtics should look to prioritize Horford’s long-term health and make sure he is completely healed before they send him back onto the court.
