Boston Celtics president Danny Ainge doesn't want Celtics fans to boo Brooklyn Nets star Kyrie Irving when he returns to Boston.

Ainge says the Celtics’ chemistry in 2018-19 just wasn’t good and blaming Irving for all of the team’s issues isn’t the right thing to do.

“I think that’s a sad commentary,” Ainge told 98.5 The Sports Hub’s Toucher & Rich on Thursday. “But I understand it just because I know there’s been a lot of negative attention. I understand all that. I just think it’s a bad conclusion to come to. It’s not really fair.

“Kyrie was in a good place, and things were looking good for a year and a half and they went sour. He gets blamed for a lot of the sour last year, but it’s much, much bigger than that. I’m grateful that he gave us a chance. It wasn’t his fault that it didn’t work out. It was a lot of people’s fault, including my own.”

Irving signed a four-year deal with the Nets in free agency. The Celtics replaced Irving with All-Star point guard Kemba Walker, who is loved in Boston already since he seems to be the anti-Irving type.

Ainge is right, though. Putting all the blame on Irving for the Celtics’ failures in 2018-19 is erroneous. The whole team deserves equal blame for Boston not living up to expectations last season.
