Boston Celtics president Danny Ainge won't share Gordon Hayward's optimism when it comes to his return from a brutal freak injury. For the sake of the fans, he won't.

Ainge recently spoke about how Hayward was “progressing a little too fast,” which cause him to have a minor setback in his recovery for a couple of weeks, but he later explained he couldn't ask for anything more out of his star player.

“[Hayward] had like one setback for a couple of weeks, maybe a month and a half ago. We were progressing a little bit too fast, we thought,” Ainge told the “Toucher & Rich” show on Boston sports radio 98.5 The SportsHub. “But, other than that, his work ethic and his determination have been amazing.”

“I don't want to get people's hopes up. He still is not back on the basketball court and we have a month left in the regular season. He's got a ways to go but we're excited about his progress and his determination.”

The Celtics invested a whopping $128 million in giving Hayward a four-year contract and will take no chances when it comes to his impending return.

The organization is committed to ensuring there's a little as possible a chance of re-injury, especially given how he is dealing with two separate injuries, one an ankle dislocation and another a broken tibia.

Both of these injuries will need to be fully healed and in outstanding condition for the Celtics to put him back on the floor, likely waiting until next season to let the reins loose.
