When Dennis Schroder turned down a reported $84 million extension with the Los Angeles Lakers during last season, he was banking in on himself to land a bigger deal in free agency. What ended up happening was not what Schroder could've expected, as he agreed to a $6 million deal with the Boston Celtics.

The internet ran wild burying Schroder for the mishap, constantly reminding him that he fumbled the bag.

On Wednesday, for one day, the newest Celtics guard is leaning into the “fumble the bag” narrative.

Schroder is letting fans go wild with the “fumbled the bag” jokes on his Instagram move. It's a savvy move by the Celtics guard to lean into the joke instead of appearing to be upset by it. It's an even more brilliant move by Schroder to post an image of him surrounded by his super expensive cars to hammer home the point that even though he lost this deal, he's still doing alright.

Schroder is expected to be a key piece at guard for the Celtics this season and it will now in essence be a “prove it” year of sorts for the veteran. If he shines in Boston and helps catapult them into the postseason as a key role player, he will cash in next offseason. If he fails to adjust to working alongside Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown, he will likely see another short-term deal.

For now, Schroder is embracing his financial lapse of judgment.
