Much has been made about Dennis Schroder recently agreeing to a one-year deal with the Boston Celtics worth $5.9 million. This development came months after the 27-year-old turned down a massive $84 million extension with the Los Angeles Lakers.

Former three-time All-Star point guard Gilbert Arenas has chimed in on the conversation and in his mind, he firmly believes that Schroder will live to regret this decision over the next few years:

“This (will) eat him up unless he can make the money back in the same time frame,” Arenas claims, via Lee Tran of Fadeaway World. “He had a 84 million for 4 year deal which means by the summer of 2025 he would have made 84 million starting at around 19 million the first year so year 1 this season coming up he's minus (13 million) for the up coming season. So to get back on track he will have to sign a deal next summer that starts at like 32 million just to have made the same amount for those two years. So no matter what he signs if it doesn't equal up to 84 million by the end of the 2024-25 season it will eat him up.”

Arenas brings up an excellent point here, and one that is perhaps shared by most folks who are familiar with Schroder's apparent misstep. To be fair, $5.9 million is still $5.9 million, and it's not as if Schroder is going to be struggling financially because of his decision to reject LA's initial offer.

What Dennis Schroder will be losing, however, is a lot of sleep as he thinks about how much money he could have made had he taken up the Lakers on their extension offer. At least this is what Gilbert Arenas thinks.
