Former Orlando Magic swingman Evan Fournier is ready to make his debut for the Boston Celtics.

Fournier will suit up for the Celtics Monday night against the New Orleans Pelicans after Boston acquired him at the trade deadline, the team announced. The Frenchman was previously in the NBA's health and safety protocols after getting traded.

The Celtics had also been working to acquire two of Evan Fournier's former teammates in Aaron Gordon and Nikola Vucevic. Ultimately, however, they will hope Fournier can supply added wing scoring and a vital shooting touch.

Fournier could quietly be a terrific get for Boston, despite missing out on Vucevic and Gordon. He was averaging 19.7 points and 3.7 assists through his first 26 games with the Magic, shooting 38.8 percent from beyond the arc on 7.2 attempts per game.

The 28-year-old can score in a variety of fashions. Evan Fournier is usually a sniper on catch-and-shoot looks from the corners, but can also shoot off the dribble and get to his spot for decent midrange looks. He also creates space with an assortment of step-back jumpers and can deploy a decent floater when he gets into the lane.

Boston is looking for a spark down the stretch. The Celtics (23-23) are seventh in the Eastern Conference. It has been a tumultuous season full of COVID issues and injuries. However, the Celtics are just one game out of the fourth seed in the East. They are very much within striking distance of having home-court advantage in the first round of the playoffs.

Brad Stevens' team will look to keep the ball rolling against the Pels after a weekend win over the Oklahoma City Thunder. The Celtics will also welcome Evan Fournier into the fold with the hopes he can provide a critical scoring presence down the stretch.

On a down note, Jaylen Brown will not play on Monday due to a hip injury.
