Larry Bird is not just one of the most legendary players in Boston Celtics history. This man has gone down in the history of the sport as one of the greatest to have ever picked up a basketball. It wasn't all about just skill for Bird, though. Just ask Gary Payton.

Payton himself was known to be a prominent trash-talker during his day. However, even The Glove couldn't handle the heat Bird spewed whenever Payton faced the Celtics icon on the basketball court:

“He was cold, man” Payton told JJ Redick on his podcast (h/t Bleacher Report on Twitter). “
He used to tell you where he gonna shoot it in your face and how, ‘You couldn't stop me.' And how you ain't no good to him. And I was like, ‘Woah, man, that's just a little bit disrespectful.' And then it happened. That's the whole cold thing about it.”

As Payton said, not only was Bird a savage smack-talker but what made it much worse is how the Celtics legend always backed it up with his game. There is no doubt in my mind that Larry Bird should be considered as one of the GOATs not only in terms of basketball but with his trash-talking ways as well.
