An anonymous general manager says he had interest in acquiring Boston Celtics backup point guard Terry Rozier, but was rebuffed by the Celtics, according to Steve Bulpett of the Boston Globe.

Rozier is making $3,050,390 this season and will become a restricted free agent in the summer if he accepts Boston's $4,285,798 qualifying offer.

The Celtics may be keeping Rozier just to protect themselves in case Kyrie Irving leaves in free agency.

One general manager who had interest in Terry Rozier was rebuffed by the C’s, though there’s room to question what his team was willing to offer for a player headed toward restricted free agency this summer.

“You’d think Boston would be willing to move one or two younger guys and get more experienced,” said one exec. “But it’s hard to get away from young guys on good contracts when you already have [Kyrie] Irving, [Gordon] Hayward and [Al] Horford on big deals. And then you’re trying to get AD [Anthony Davis], too, and what’s that going to cost? At some point, I guess you have to look at the bottom line and not be crazy.”

Terry Rozier has been very open about how he wants to be a starting point guard in the NBA. That can't happen in Boston as long as Irving is on the roster.

The Celtics could also be holding on to Rozier so they can include him in a possible trade package for New Orleans Pelicans superstar Anthony Davis in the summer.
