Boston Celtics forward Gordon Hayward has undergone surgery on his fractured left hand and will miss at least six weeks to recover.

According to the team's statement, Hayward underwent surgery “to repair a fourth metacarpal fracture in his left hand.” He sustained the injury during Saturday night's game against the San Antonio Spurs after colliding with LaMarcus Aldridge late in the second quarter of the game.

Although any injury to any player is always unfortunate, this one in particular hits home extremely hard for most NBA fans — especially those in Boston. After all, Hayward infamously suffered a broken leg in his very first game as a member of the Celtics after coming over by way of free agency from the Utah Jazz.

Moreover, Hayward has struggled mightily last season in his return from injury. He was starting to recapture his All-Star form this year before the injury hit him.

The 29-year-old swingman is now less than a week removed from a huge performance against the Cleveland Cavaliers. Back on November 5th, Hayward put up a whopping 39 points, by far his highest scoring total of the season.

It is also worth noting that the Celtics have won all but one game in which Hayward has appeared this season while Boston has won seven consecutive outings with the former Jazz standout in the lineup.
