The upcoming NBA season is full of narratives people could talk about. Plenty of them could be found in the rivalry between the Cleveland Cavaliers and the Boston Celtics and for Gordon Hayward, the trade that sent Kyrie Irving to the Celtics and Isaiah Thomas to the Cavaliers was fuel poured into the already burning enmity between the two franchises.

Speaking in front of reporters during Boston’s media day, Hayward gave his take on the impact of the trade not only on the way basketball would be played by the two teams, but also of how it would affect fans’ perspective of the two squads in relation to each other.

The Celtics were ousted in five games by LeBron James and gang in the Eastern Conference Finals back in May, and after that, Boston plunged into the summer ready to retool its roster in hopes of unseating Cleveland as king of the conference. Winning the Hayward sweepstakes in free agency and prying away Irving from their nemesis were two of the biggest moves the Celtics pulled off in the summer, but whether those are enough to bring down Cleveland in the East is something that remains to be seen.

We don’t have to wait for so long before the two teams meet one another, however. They will open their respective season in Cleveland on October 17.
