The Boston Celtics have certainly not played the way that many fans and players of the team were hoping for this season. They're currently three games below .500 as they are 18-21 and hold the 11th seed in the Eastern Conference.

They've had a tough time closing games out and that has been prevalent in the last two games as they could not get close wins in either game against the New York Knicks and the San Antonio Spurs.

According to Keith Smith, of the Celtics Blog, Ime Udoka had this to say,

“Ime Udoka said that Celtics closing lineups have tradeoffs because some players are offense-first, while others are defense-first. He did mention that shooting around Tatum and Brown is a factor, but it's a balance of career-long track records against what's happening this year.”

Having players that have are offensive-minded and defensive-minded isn't necessarily a bad thing because you always need both on the court at all times. The Celtics' problem is that they can't get both of them to click at the same time. They had a huge lead against the Knicks and ended up losing that game because their defense and offense both went cold at the same time.

If the Celtics want to have any success towards the back end of the season, they are going to need to start figuring it out both on the offensive and defensive side of the ball. It is going to be interesting to see what happens with the Boston Celtics at the NBA trade deadline, but there are definitely areas that they need to improve on.
