Jaylen Brown signed a four-year, $115 million contract extension with the Boston Celtics on Monday. The deal includes some likely and unlikely incentives.

According to Chris Haynes of Yahoo Sports, Brown can secure $8 million in incentives if he wins MVP, Defensive Player of the Year or makes one of the three All-NBA teams.

Brown can also earn $4 million if he plays in 65 or more games, the Celtics win 49 or more games and reach the second round of the playoffs.

Celtics President of Basketball Operations Danny Ainge and Brown's agent, Jason Glushon, negotiated much of the deal over the weekend in Boston.

Last season for the Celtics, Brown averaged 13.0 points, 4.2 rebounds and 1.4 assists while shooting 46.5 percent from the field, 34.4 percent from beyond the arc and 65.8 percent from the free-throw line.

The Celtics will need Brown to play at a near All-Star level this season. Kyrie Irving and Al Horford are gone, so Boston will be asking Brown to do a lot more for them on offense in 2019-20.

Brown would have entered restricted free agency next summer if he and the Celtics didn’t agree to an extension. The contract situation could have been a distraction for Brown during the season, so it’s good he and Boston were able to get it done.
