Are the Boston Celtics potentially playing with fire when it comes to center Robert Williams and his injury? They certainly don't think so. But former All-Star Isaiah Thomas doesn't exactly sound too convinced.

Timelord has been dealing with and playing through a lingering knee injury that's forced him to sit out in seven postseason games thus far. While Robert Williams has spoken at length about his struggles and how the pain hasn't subsided despite the team's best efforts, the Celtics have reportedly “ensured” him that there's no risk of serious aggravation if he keeps playing.

Via Yahoo Sports' Chris Haynes:

The medical staff has ensured [Robert Williams] that he is not at further risk of worsening the repaired knee. It’s all a matter of pain tolerance.

Former Celtics star Isaiah Thomas reacted to that very same report. It sure sounds like the the diminutive guard is skeptical that Boston's assurances hold any weight.

“Heard that before lol,” said Thomas.

Isaiah Thomas infamously suffered a hip injury during their 2017 playoff run and continued to power through the issue as they reached the Eastern Conference Finals against LeBron James's Cleveland Cavaliers. Thomas played in just two games during that series before sitting out the rest of the way.

Thomas had just been named to the All-NBA Second Team during that season and was headed for contract negotiations when the injury struck him at the worst possible time.

There are obviously key differences in IT's situation with that of Timelord today. The Celtics medical staff has been completely revamped since then, the injuries vary, and Robert Williams is also locked under contract until 2026. If he gets hurt, he's still cashing in those checks.

And of course, there's the fact that Robert Williams likely wants to play and do everything in his power to get the Celtics that coveted NBA title.
