Hall of Famer Isiah Thomas is a two-time NBA champ, a 12-time All-Star, and a member of the NBA's Top 75 all-time list, among others. Simply put, this man is a legend of the sport. This is exactly why we have to put a lot of stock on Thomas' unique relationship with Boston Celtics star Jaylen Brown.

Right before tip-off of Game 4 of the NBA Finals between the Celtics and the Golden State Warriors, Thomas opened up about how he's been a mentor for Brown for many years now. It all started when Brown sought some academic help from Thomas as a college freshman. It wasn't long before the NBA icon realized how special this young man truly is.

According to Thomas, he was shocked to find Brown right at his doorstep barely 24 hours after a big loss during his time with the California Golden Bears:

“Right after they lost.. he took a red eye and flew to New York, and the next day, this dude knocking in my door at my house, and he's talking about, ‘How can I get better?'” Thomas said of the Celtis All-Star, via NBA TV on Twitter. “Like you say, you can get somebody the book, but they have to read the book. They have to comprehend… You talk about somebody who wants to learn… He's a seeker. He goes out and finds it.”

Thomas had nothing but praise for the Celtics star and his incessant desire to get better. Brown is clearly not the type who rests on his laurels and this is why he is now just two wins away from becoming an NBA champion.
