The Boston Celtics were dealt a brutal hit early in the first quarter of Tuesday's game against the Atlanta Hawks, with Jaylen Brown suffering an ankle injury as he was attacking the basket.

Just three minutes into the game, Brown fell in pain after a failed drive to the rim. He stayed for a few minutes on the floor, though he was able to stand and walk on his own power heading to the locker room.

Unfortunately, the Celtics confirmed that Brown was done for the game with a right ankle injury. The severity of the issue has not yet been disclosed, but hopes are high that it won't sideline him for a long time.

Here's a look at the play when Brown sustained his injury:

Jaylen Brown is a key cog for the Celtics in their recent climb on the East standings. Heading to Tuesday's game, they were sixth in the conference with a 36-27 record, making everyone forget that they were even out of play-in contention months ago as they struggled.

Brown played only three minutes against the Hawks, exiting the game with to points, one rebound and one assist. So far in the season, he's averaging 23.7 points, 6.3 rebounds and 3.3 assists.

More details on Brown's injury should come after the game. However, it is worth noting that the Celtics only have 18 games left after Tuesday, and they certainly need one of their best players of they want to chase an automatic playoff qualification spot instead of going into the play-in.
