The Boston Celtics are fresh off a convincing Game 1 win over the visiting Philadelphia 76ers — a 117-101 win without their starting shooting guard Jaylen Brown.

The Cal product missed the game with a hamstring injury but vowed to return for Game 2 of the series, a gaudy measure to take, considering the gravity of such injury.

“I'll be back. I'm playing,” Brown told A. Sherrod Blakely of NBC Sports Boston.

Brown had pushed the medical staff to let him play in Game 1 but was met with a resounding “no” from them, noting the condition of his hamstring after limping out of a Game 7 against the Milwaukee Bucks in the first half.

“There was some concern that I could re-aggravate it and it becomes a season-ending injury,” said Brown. “I'm basically trying to come back in two days from a two week-type injury.”

Keeping in mind that this is a player's personal assessment, Brown should still be considered a game-time decision for Thursday's Game 2 until he's cleared by the medical staff.

The Celtics have been utterly careful with the health of their players, sitting out Kyrie Irving for the remainder of the season and allowing Marcus Smart to heal from his thumb surgery for the full amount of time before bringing him back to action.

Boston handled Brown's absence as if he wasn't needed, using a combination of Marcus Smart and Al Horford to frustrate Ben Simmons and keep him from wreaking havoc at the offensive end of the ball.
