The Boston Celtics will be without small forward Jaylen Brown on Thursday when they take on the Milwaukee Bucks.

The Celtics say Brown is out due to a right thumb sprain he suffered on Wednesday against the Detroit Pistons:

The Celtics are 27-12 on the season after losing to the Pistons. They are in third place in the Eastern Conference standings.

Jaylen Brown has appeared in 35 games this season for the Celtics. He's averaging 20.0 points, 6.9 rebounds and 2.3 assists while shooting 49.2 percent from the field, 39.5 percent from beyond the arc and 75.6 percent from the free-throw line.

Many believe one of the reasons Brown is flourishing this season is because he got his contract taken care of. Brown signed a rookie-scale extension with the Celtics before the season started, so he’s playing free now and turning into an elite two-way player right before our eyes.

Celtics president of basketball operations Danny Ainge is starting to look really smart for not trading Jayson Tatum and Brown for some of the superstars who have requested trades over the past few seasons.

The Celtics appear on their way to redeeming themselves after last season’s dysfunctional campaign which saw them lose to the Bucks in the second round of the playoffs in five games.
