Things have been spiraling downward for the Boston Celtics during the stretch run of the regular season. Perhaps taking all the wind out of their sails was Jaylen Brown recently being ruled out for the year and undergoing wrist surgery. Brown underwent the procedure and on Wednesday, provided an update.

With a sling around his left arm and the cast protecting his left wrist, Brown is seen simply giving the thumbs-up after undergoing the season ending wrist surgery.

Brown was in the midst of his best year in the NBA. He was named to his first all-star game this year and joined his teammate Jayson Tatum in the festivities. Along with the all-star nod, Brown was averaging career-highs in points per game (24.7), assists (3.4), shooting percentage (48.4) and 3-point percentage (39.7).

The loss is a huge blow to the Celtics and their chances to advance in the postseason. After a loss to the Cleveland Cavaliers on Wednesday night, Boston slipped to a locked in spot in the play-in tournament.

Perhaps they can rally around and figure things out before it's too late, Celtics fans have been waiting for just that all season long.

Losing Brown doesn't help matters, it only turns the dire situation to an even bleaker one for Boston. Yet, there's still plenty of talent on this team with the aforementioned Tatum along with Kemba Walker and countless others. There's no doubting the Celtics didn't believe they'd be clawing through the play-in tournament when the season started but now, that's exactly where they will find themselves.

There's still time left but losing Jaylen Brown can't be minimized, it's a massive gap in the Celtics lineup. Here's to a speedy recovery for Jaylen Brown.
