Boston Celtics small forward Jaylen Brown dealt with an illness this week and it got so bad that he had to go to the hospital.

So when the NBA announced on Monday that Brown was the Eastern Conference Player of the Week, the Celtics swingman was actually asleep in a hospital bed. Brown then woke up to a bunch of congratulatory texts and was pretty confused as to what was going on:

Brown averaged 27.0 points and 6.7 rebounds as the Celtics went 2-1 last week. The Celtics are 23-8 on the season and appear on their way to redeeming themselves after last season’s dysfunctional campaign which saw them lose to the Milwaukee Bucks in the second round of the playoffs in five games.

Brown, 23, is averaging 20.6 points, 7.0 rebounds and 2.4 assists per game this season for the Celtics while shooting 51.8 percent from the field, 40.0 percent from beyond the arc and 75.2 percent from the free-throw line. He's playing sound basketball on both ends of the court, turning into an elite-two way player right before our eyes.

Most pundits believe the main reason Brown is flourishing this season is because he got his contract taken care of. Brown signed a lucrative rookie-scale extension with the Celtics before the season started, so he’s playing free and having fun with the game again.

Brown is expected to return to the Celtics' lineup on Friday against the Atlanta Hawks.
