Boston Celtics swingman Jaylen Brown will not play in Saturday's game against the Phoenix Suns due a sprained thumb which is still giving him some issues:

Brown suffered the sprain when he collided with Markieff Morris in the middle of Boston's loss to the Detroit Pistons on Wednesday night.

The 23-year-old gritted things out, scoring 24 points to go along with 12 rebounds. However, Brown missed Thursday night's game against the Milwaukee Bucks, and the Celtics will take precautions as they prepare to host the Suns.

Brown has been extremely impressive after signing a max extension with the Celtics this past summer. The fourth-year pro is averaging career highs in scoring (20.0), rebounding (6.9) and assists (2.3) while also shooting close to 40 percent from beyond the arc. His development as a scorer alongside Kemba Walker, Jayson Tatum and Gordon Hayward has added another element to Boston's offensive game plan.

The Celtics have struggled as of late, winning just two of their last seven games. Brown said the team needs to avoid feeling too “comfortable” after the loss to the Pistons (via Tom Westerholm of MassLive.com):

“I just feel like we got comfortable winning early and we thought that was just supposed to happen,” Brown said. “We got away from some of the things that we did to get those wins, so we’ve got to get back to being the seeker and not the seeked.”

Of course, the Celtics have also dealt with the likes of Walker and Marcus Smart being in and out of the rotation, and they are only just nearing full strength.

The good news for Celtics fans is Brown's thumb injury does not appear to be much of a concern. Still, he will watch Saturday's game from the bench.
