Boston Celtics star Jayson Tatum isn't thinking too much on the “what ifs” amid reports that Ben Simmons could make his debut for the Brooklyn Nets in their first-round playoff series.

Tatum knows very well that Simmons will be a problem for the Celtics when he returns. After all, he solves one of the biggest weaknesses of the Nets, which is defense. However, he knows better not to overthink since a lot can happen and they cannot really focus on just one aspect of the game.

With that said, Tatum emphasized that the Celtics will take it day-by-day and make the necessary preparations when and if Simmons is finally made available:

“If [Simmons plays], we cross that bridge when we get there,” Tatum said on Wednesday, per Brian Lewis of the New York Post. “But right now we’re just focusing on the guys that they’ve got at this moment.”

Jayson Tatum and the rest of the Celtics are well aware of the threat the Nets bring. They cannot worry about Ben Simmons alone, especially with players like Kevin Durant and Kyrie Irving waiting for them. The two are certainly bigger problems than the Aussie playmaker.

Of course, Boston can't completely ignore Simmons. He changes the dynamic of the Nets and brings some much-needed defense all over the floor. However, it is not like the Celtics themselves are lacking since they also boast a top-heavy offense headed by Tatum and his partner in crime in Jaylen Brown.

And, oh, did we mention they were the best defensive team in the league during the regular season?

Tatum and Boston certainly have the right mentality coming into the game, and it could prove to be a huge factor as they look to go deep in the postseason and possibly win it all.
