The Boston Celtics are unquestionably one of the most promising teams in the league today. Breakout star Jayson Tatum recognizes his team's potential, and is eager to work with one particular member of their young squad — Gordon Hayward.

After signing a four-year, $218 million deal with the Celtics last summer, Hayward's season was cut extremely short after a season-ending injury just minutes into his Celtics debut. Nevertheless, he is primed for a much-awaited return this coming season and everybody, especially Tatum, is looking forward to his comeback.

Tatum recently sat down with Adam Himmelsbach of the Boston Globe, and discussed his excitement about Hayward's return.

“Just another weapon that we really didn’t have at all last year,” said the incoming sophomore. “We’re really excited to have him back, but just to have him at all. We really don’t know what it’s like to play with him. We were the second team in the East and we didn’t have him all season, so it’ll be exciting.

When asked if he had been in touch with Hayward, Tatum claimed to be in contact through renowned basketball trainer Drew Hanlen, who works with both Tatum and Hayward.

“Not really, but I know he works out with Drew, so I get updates from Drew on how he’s been doing,” said Tatum. “…[Hayward is] getting better. Each and every time they work out he looks more and more like himself, and that’s all you can wish for, especially coming off an injury like that.

Many believe that Hayward's injury was one of the biggest contributors to Tatum's rise. Head coach Brad Stevens now has an enviable dilemma in his hands, with two outstanding small forwards at his disposal.
