The Boston Celtics had a rather tough start to the 2021-22 season, and for Jayson Tatum, it reached its apex last January when they lost to the New York Knicks off an RJ Barrett buzzer-beater.

Tatum admitted it was the “toughest moment” of the season for him, and who can blame him? He was actually the one guarding Barrett at the time and Boston badly needed the win after going 18-20 in the first 38 games of the season.

“The toughest moment for me was blowing that 25-point lead against New York and RJ Barrett hit the game-winning shot over me,” Tatum said, per Jay King of The Athletic.

With the game tied at 105-all, RJ Barrett caught the inbound pass and quickly launched an off-balanced triple in the face of Jayson Tatum. The Knicks guard wasn't even having the best game at the time, finishing with only 13 points, but he certainly banked the biggest shot of the night.

Perhaps the defeat served as a wake-up call for Tatum and the Celtics, though. They won three straight after that and lost just 10 times in the regular season ever since then.

Now as everyone knows, the Beantown team is heading to the NBA Finals where they will face the Golden State Warriors. Tatum himself learned his lesson and has clearly moved on from that difficult time. Thanks to Barrett's buzzer-beater, Boston got the reality check they needed.

Hopefully, though, all they have gone through will help them in an attempt to win their 18th championship in franchise history.
