Boston Celtics forward Jayson Tatum sent out a heartfelt tribute to Kobe Bryant after learning of his passing on Sunday.

Bryant was killed in a helicopter crash outside Los Angeles on Sunday morning. He was 41 years of age. Sadly, all of the passengers, including his daughter GiGi, also perished in the accident.

According to reports, Bryant was on his way to Mamba Sports Academy, where he was to serve as a coach. However, his private chopper crashed along the way, just before 10:00 a.m. ET on Sunday. Witnesses on the ground reported an onboard fire and sputtering engine sounds. First responders reported a quarter-acre brush fire, which they said was difficult to extinguish due to levels of magnesium around the site.

Tatum shared a close bond with Bryant. In fact, Bryant worked out with Jayson individually during the 2018 offseason, and they later became close friends.

The Celtics star took to Instagram to offer his tribute to Kobe Bryant.

“Heart broken,” Tatum wrote in his Instagram post. “My Hero. My Idol. The reason I started to play this game, the reason I fell in love with this game. Growing up wanting to be just like you, to you becoming a mentor, beyond thankful for everything you’ve done for me.”
