On Friday night, the Boston Celtics defeated the Detroit Pistons by a score of 102-93. Boston was in command for most of the game, and the nine-point victory did not reflect their dominance against Detroit on Friday night.
Jayson Tatum did what he does best in this game, scoring 24 points in 28 minutes. Tatum scored just five points for the Celtics at halftime, which is unusual for a star like him.
In the third quarter, Jayson Tatum came out and completely took over the game, scoring 19 points in the quarter alone. There could be a reason why Tatum played so well in the 3rd quarter, according to BostonSportsJournal’s John Karalis,
“Jayson Tatum says Pistons assistant (former C’s assistant) Jerome Allen told him at the start of the 3rd quarter that he might as well have put a coach’s polo on because he only had 5 points. He said “ok, I got something for you” and then dropped 19 in the quarter.”
The Pistons assistant coach’s decision to spew trash talk to Jayson Tatum is interesting from his standpoint. Everyone knows that when Tatum gets going, he’s one of the top scorers in the game, so adding fuel to his fire isn’t a smart idea.
It was most likely a joke between the two, given that he is one of the former Celtics assistant coaches. Overall, Boston was able to win this game, and Tatum was able to do what he does best for the Celtics, which is always exciting to witness. They’ve won seven of their previous ten games and have looked much better than they have for most of the season.
