While there have been a number of athletes and celebrities who failed to throw a good first pitch in the past, it was a different story for Jayson Tatum.

The Boston Celtics rookie was asked to open the festivities ahead of the Boston Red Sox’s series finale against the Tampa Bay Rays at Fenway Park. He showed off his skills in baseball and proved that he has the arm strength needed to throw a good pitch, which just sailed a bit high.

The 19-year-old Duke product then took to his Twitter account to thank the Red Sox for giving him the honor of being their distinguished guest on the afternoon, and also expressed his enjoyment from it.

The gesture from the storied MLB franchise only goes to show how much Beantown values their prized rookie. After being selected third overall in last June's draft, Tatum was able to live up to the hype during the Summer League by having strong performances for the C's. If he can continue his impressive play in the regular season, it will be a huge boost to his team, who have acquired Kyrie Irving and Gordon Hayward this summer to give them a better shot at contending for the title.
