Kemba Walker and the Boston Celtics lost to the Washington Wizards on Sunday afternoon, marking the team's second consecutive defeat and dropping them to the .500 mark 26 games into the season. Not only did the disappointing loss come against one of the worst teams in the NBA, but it also continued a downward trend for a squad widely considered to be a contender for the NBA Finals entering the season.

With the slump sure to intensify the criticisms thrown at the club, Walker had a stern response when asked about the effect the chatter might have on the team.

“Honestly, we don't care what people think,” the Celtics guard told reporters, according to Keith Smith of Yahoo! Sports. “This is on us. We need to get better. We'll figure it out. But it's on us. Not anyone else.”

While Kemba Walker alluded to a lack of effort being one of the root causes of the Celtics' woes, the team has struggled to find consistency on the offensive side of the court. Relying almost exclusively on the scoring tandem of Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown, Boston has been unable to implement the quick passing and outside shooting that made them so effective in years past.

Even with Kemba beginning to show signs of life following a return from knee surgery, the Celtics have failed to capitalize on the increased production from the point guard position as they continue to search for answers. With the season not even at the halfway mark, the team at the very least hopes it has found rock bottom, with nowhere to go but up.

“It doesn't feel good playing like this,” Walker said. “It can't get no worse than this.”
