All-Star Kyrie Irving will be looking for a bit of revenge when the Celtics face the Knicks on Thursday night. It seems he hasn't forgot about New York's win on Boston's home court earlier this season.

“It’s definitely a game that I remember, so as a competitor I can’t wait to play,” Irving told reporters ahead of Thursday's game against the Knicks.

Trey Burke dropped 29 points in the first meeting between the two teams this season. Tim Hardaway Jr. racked up 21, and the Knicks snapped what was then a six-game losing streak with a 117-109 victory inside TD Garden. Irving led the Celtics with 22 points and 13 assists, but it wasn't enough in the end. It was Boston's third straight loss, which was a season high.

Celtics fans started booing midway through the second quarter. Their jeers got louder when Boston fell behind by 20 points.

“In order to be considered a special team, you have to earn it,” Irving said after Boston's loss to New York earlier this season.

Irving and the Celtics — winners of their last three games — have managed to rebound a bit since then, as they're currently holding a 13-10 overall record. Injuries have played a role in their early-season struggles, to be sure. However, now that Gordon Hayward has returned form injury, Boston seems to be on the right track.

“Now we're just playing,” Irving told ESPN after posting 21 points and nine assists in Saturday's 118-109 victory over the Minnesota Timberwolves. “Gordon's being Gordon now. Guys are competing on both ends of the floor.”

Thursday's Celtics-Knicks game is scheduled to tip inside TD Garden at 8:00 p.m. ET with TNT having live broadcast coverage.
