There is some serious bad blood brewing between the Boston Celtics and Denver Nuggets. In particular, between Kyrie Irving and Jamal Murray.

As time was winding down in their game on Monday night, Murray hoisted up a deep 3 at the buzzer despite the fact that the Nuggets already had the game in hand and the clock was running out. Murray was trying to put his scoring total above 50, but he missed the shot and had to settle for a career-high 48 points.

The Celtics didn't like the shot from Murray, so Irving heaved the ball into the crowd after the game. Irving spoke with Jay King of The Athletic and said he understands why he got fined $25,000 for the toss. He also said:

“You just don’t play basketball like that. … it’s just petty, it’s immature. But we’ll see him again though.”

Normally, players don't shoot at the buzzer in games that are already decided. It's clear that the shot ticked off the Celtics. Irving even went as far as to call Murray a “thirsty player,” per King.

Kyrie Irving knew Jamal Murray had a career game, but he wasn't ready to give him the satisfaction of having the game ball as a keepsake. Irving doesn't sound all that concerned with his fine and appears happy with his decision to launch the ball into the crowd. He told King:

“I felt disrespected after the game. So your career-high ball goes in the stands.”

The Celtics won't have another crack at the Nuggets until March, but you can bet that there will still be some hard feelings when they do face off again.
