The Boston Celtics defeated the Golden State Warriors on Tuesday in convincing fashion and star point guard Kyrie Irving says the “long plane ride” from Boston to Oakland was exactly what the team needed.

There's been a lot of tension with the Celtics this season. They were the preseason favorite to win the Eastern Conference, but things haven't been smooth for Boston and players on the team have talked all year about how the vibe around the team hasn't been positive.

The non-stop flight from Boston to Oakland is roughly six hours and 35 minutes. Irving says the extended plane ride helped the Celtics a lot.

“That long plane ride helped us out,” Irving said, via Tim Bontemps of ESPN. “I'll just say that. That long plane ride helped us out.

“We needed it. It was just we were going to get to a point where we were just going to get tired of fighting each other, fighting the outside world. And it doesn't even really matter. So, we just wanted to come out here and just play basketball. This is our sanctuary. And we have to do everything to protect it. We can't let anybody infiltrate it.”

After a great win over the mighty Warriors at Oracle Arena, it will be interesting to see if the Celtics can build on the momentum and go on a winning streak.
