Boston Celtics star point guard Kyrie Irving says the media has broken up NBA locker rooms before because of some of the stories written.

Irving says contrary to popular belief, rumors surrounding players end up getting into the locker room and they become a huge distraction if the rumblings aren't addressed the right way:

“People don't realize on the outside that a lot of the things that are said get into the locker rooms,” Irving told ESPN's Rachel Nichols. “Like a lot of things that are put into headlines, get into the locker rooms. Media has broken up locker rooms. It's been done before.”

In this age of social media, NBA rumors are bound to make their way into the locker room. During the Anthony Davis trade saga, Celtics small forward Jayson Tatum was aware his name was being discussed in a potential trade during the summer, while players on the Los Angeles Lakers knew they could be shipped to New Orleans at any moment.

Kyrie Irving can become an unrestricted free agent this summer if he declines his 2019-20 player option with the Celtics, something the All-Star point guard will do since he can make more money on the open market. Before the 2018-19 season started, Irving told fans at TD Garden he was going to re-sign with Boston. A few weeks ago in New York, though, Uncle Drew said he doesn't owe anybody anything and will make the best decision for himself.

Since those comments, many on the outside have speculated that Irving is going to leave the Celtics. Those rumors have apparently gotten into Boston's locker room, and Irving wants to make sure his teammates don't get anything twisted.
